The male kestrel stopped by at the box with something what looked like an insect, but took off because no one was home.

nc's picture

Nobody is home. :'(

It's good but sad. I miss them.

cb0324's picture

They still may show up so keep on checking on them but they really departed fast this year. But they are very healthy looking and early in the year so i think they may have above average chances.

TerriFla's picture

I just saw one on the roof edge!

TerriFla's picture

Just saw one in the pine trees.

TerriFla's picture

seeing a lot of activity around the nest box. Mom and Dad and a fledgling.

cb0324's picture

The familiar kestrel calls again, LOL.Good to hear them.

cb0324's picture

fledgling on the roof chirping.

cb0324's picture

Wow! Four fledglings on the roof!

Jill from MN's picture

I just saw four fledglings too, killying away in the wind.

Jill from MN's picture

would it be a record to see all five?

cb0324's picture

In one of the past years, i actually saw all seven ( the whole family) flying or hanging around the box.

cb0324's picture

male fledgling in the box, female on the roof, another flying by. A few minutes ago magpies on the ladder.

Jill from MN's picture

Very interesting that the fledgling in the box acts as if he were calling for food!

cb0324's picture

a couple of fledglings in the tree, trying to fly in the strong wind.

Jill from MN's picture

Magpie on the ladder. Are the little kestrels frightened of them?

Jill from MN's picture

The little fledgling is staying on the ledge as he eats. Excellent balance....

nc's picture

Surprise! Surprise! One of the male fledglings visited home this afternoon.

One of his brothers was on top of the building. [Corrected]

Earlier, he was on the top of the box but a short while later, he decided to hang out on the roof of the building. [Corrected]

I also saw a kestrel in the red-leaved tree to the left of the building.

nc's picture

Just saw two on the roof of the building, chatting away.

cb0324's picture

now two of them sitting on the ladder or whatever it is

cb0324's picture

another on the roof of the structure. They seem to be around for the evening.

Delorahilleary's picture

It's neat to still be seeing them around! Free streaming may have had some hiccups this year, but it's a fun benefit to be able to keep streaming as long as we want :)

I'm glad you guys enjoyed this stream year, and it's cool to see your reports of continued activity!

cb0324's picture

They have spread faster than in some of the previous years. But they look all very strong and healthy and well fed. I noticed that most of the prey this year were rodents, while in some other years there were more butterflies, insects and whatever. Do you guys have a rodent year? Seems to be good for the kestrels.
Hear chirping again, LOL.

cb0324's picture

fledgling making a short stop on the roof.

cb0324's picture

some calls of fledglings audible.

cb0324's picture

a couple of fledglings on the top of the nesting box. One took off.Chirping.

TerriFla's picture

I can hear them but I don't see them.

cb0324's picture

when you hear them they are close by and with a little patience you will see tham landing on the roof, looking inside of the box, landing on the ladder or just flying by LOL.

Flegling on the roof again calling( probably female), another fledgling stops by, hard to say probably male.
They seem to enjoy gathering around the box in the late afternoon and early evening hours. Some fly by s.

Female fledgling on the top of the box- short calling. ( do not kill me if it was a male, the resolution is not good enough lol )

Now what am I going to do? :p Loved watching this stream. Many thanks to all that make it possible! See you next year!

TerriFla's picture

oh no! are we all done watching for the year?

cb0324's picture

I hope not. Maybe they can fix it but it looks like it will not be for the weekend .

TerriFla's picture

Come on everyone who watched, donate what you can and earmark it for Boise. Maybe they can upgrade the computers for next year. I just did and started a Givealanche!!

Sarah Schulwitz's picture

Hi Terri! Thanks for donating! Being a non-profit organization, we are heavily reliant on donations like yours, so all of us with the American Kestrel Partnership and The Peregrine Fund are very grateful for your enthusiasm and your donations. You said you created a Givealanche?! Will you tell us more about how to find your Givealanche online? Thanks!

TerriFla's picture

I used the button on the donation page to create it. I'll see if I can find more info.
