General Discussion : Nest Box activity April 2015

This is my third year for a nest box and second year with nesting kestrels. The first year I battled with starlings and finally gave up and took the nest down. Last year 5-6 chicks fledged and the pair are back this year. I believe the male stayed in the area for the winter since I saw him quite often. I took the nest down for just a couple of hours in December, cleaned it out and put it back up. I noticed the female in early March. I live in Boise, ID. I've noticed an increase in activity for both the male and female and I believe she is in the process of laying her eggs. I plan to purchase a nest camera next year so I'll have a live feed for the season. About 50 yards out my den window are two telephone poles that they both perch on throughout the day. The nest box is located right outside the den and 14 feet high. So while sitting in the room I can see them when the enter and exit the box. My grandkids were here last year from AZ and thoroughly enjoyed watching the parents bring food to the nest. They are excited about doing the same this year.
