We recently moved into a new home and we have a male Kestrel that hangs out on the tops of a tree. My son said today, he is waiting for his female. Cute! I was just wondering, since this seems like his home territory, do I need to put up a box, or does he probably have a current nesting place? I was thinking of getting a box, but I am not certain on the length of time we will be here, so I'd be afraid to just leave it untended. And I would hate to establish one they'd use and then take it away with us if we did move.
Any help would be appreciated. I couldn't find anything in my quick search on here.
Thank you for caring enough to ask that question.
Nest box protocol is to not install a box if you can't monitor it.
I would be on the safe side and not install a box if you're unsure of your commitment.
Perhaps you'll be in a better location at another time.
