Hi, I live in Colorado and we have had successful kestrel nests for... 4 years? This would be the 5th I think. For the first time, we have a male who hangs around and is defending the territory against red tailed hawks, but no female. We also haven't seen many or any female kestrels in our area. Normally we notice tons by this time of year. Is anyone else noticing the same thing? Is it possible that a hurricane last year killed off migrating females?
We on the other hand have had females fighting for our nest boxes and we are much farther north.
