General Discussion : American Kestrels Nesting In a Broken Window

I was surprised on June 17, 2016 to discover a family of American Kestrels nesting in a broken window on the ninth floor of the building I work in (Albany, NY). I was heading to my car today when I heard the chatter of what sounded like hungry fleglings. I looked up and I see a very small falcon swooping into the area. Here's the photo I snapped.

Nice! Thanks so much for sharing this!! Did you see Peter's (Providence Raptors) post about the Kestrel in Rhode Island nesting behind a buildings vent? If not, take a look at the post from a few days back entitled "Double-clutching kestrels?"

We especially love to hear about kestrels nesting in your neck of the woods.....or city! Data shows that kestrels have declined by up to 88% in the northeast US. Keep your eyes out and let us all know when you spot them! Many thanks!

Best wishes,
Sarah

Great shot, Pat! Adorable and shows how adaptable Kestrels are in the urban envorinment.

Thanks for the shout-out, Sarah.
