General Discussion : New Kestrel nesting

Hi There,

First time poster. I installed a Kestrel box on a utility pole on our farm property last year. I was delighted to see an adult Kestrel frequenting the area this spring. I checked the box and found 5 young nestlings yesterday. The adults were seen actively going in and out through the day. Of note is the fact that the adults carried in a significant amount of dry grass to the box. Is this common? From what I have read Kestrels do not normally add nesting material.

Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing! You are correct in that kestrels are not known to bring grass into nests. Do you have any photos of the nestlings in the box now?
